OUR NAME
The name Easter Planet is derived from the history of Easter Island, a small island in the South Pacific. After being settled by Polynesians between 800 and 1200 AD, Easter Island flourished. In the 1860s, a series of devastating events wiped out almost the entire population of Easter Island. One of the most significant contributors to the collapse was the deforestation of the island, during construction of the nearly 900 moai ( large stone statues). Also contributing to the collapse was internal wars, and disease.
Earth’s population is forecast to be around 10.9 billion by the year 2100.
As the collapse of the environment from non-sustainable use of resources led to the collapse of Easter Island's civilisation, we have to ask ourselves, "will the overuse of resources on Earth lead to a similar, but much larger environmental collapse, ultimately leading to the downfall of human civilisation?"

OUR STORY
"In 2009, I attended a state government waste management group forum held in a four-star hotel. On arrival, I noticed that in front of every participant, was a plastic bottle of water and a bowl of individually wrapped mints. It was than I realised that if the department responsible for waste and environment couldn't get its act together enough to show that it understood the waste problem, then we were stuffed."

From that forum, a sense of responsibility has grown to promote the message that everyone has a role to play if we are to save, or at least minimise the damage to, the planet from human activities.
